Teacher Comments: Using Problem-Solving Examples in Classes

Derek Lyle, Electrical Engineering: I remember a problem being given to a class: a high power transmission line falls down and the company needs to get that fixed and they need a quick response from a sub-contractor about what they propose to do and how quickly and what it will cost. And the students were asked to be the company and write up the proposal.

Carmen Menoni: Another example is that students were asked to design a communication link between Fort Collins and San Francisco. And they have to come up with everything: the cost, the technical design, plus the evaluation of the post-analysis.
